Chalk Art Coping

The first few weeks of lockdown were challenging as I wasn’t prepared for it to hit us overnight – literally – and so I was scrambling to find activities, groceries, and just overall survival techniques to mentally brace myself for what had hit us in a flash. For me, days 5-7 were extremely hard as it really became a reality at that point that this new lifestyle format wasn’t going away for awhile and all of my normal routines and likings in life were on hold with no end date in view.

The only way I know how to cope in situations like these is to be creative, since I’m a creative, and so the chalk art came out. We didn’t really have a plan for this at first but just dove in and eventually decided an animal parade would be the thing to cheer up our neighborhood and each other best. My helper and myself got to work and burned through a box of chalk on our side fence in no time flat.

This activity also helped kill off a few hours of time with my child and he felt equally satisfied. It is so much fun to just be creative and let your imagination run wild. The world of colors in a chalk box is endless, after-all.

We are not certifiable artists but did our best to put together this animal parade of “Cheer” for the neighborhood. I hope everyone is doing okay and staying safe – it is a hard time for us all but I know this shall pass too.
