Has everyone lost their minds? Going to the store the week BEFORE Halloween has turned into a complete headache and now it seems that “Black Friday” madness is really just October, November, and December madness continuously. I just need to pick up lettuce at Whole Foods and the Christmas music is blaring, they have chestnuts roasting, and the lines are down the aisles. I’m so confused. Have we all just become Christmas obsessed and cannot control ourselves no matter what time of year it is?
Maybe. And with good reason. I love the holidays and Christmas because it is a magical time of year and it means you get to hit the refresh button from a design standpoint with your holiday decor. New tree, new light, new ideas….every year I change it up a bit. I recycle and keep all my old tree treasures in boxes and then try to re-shift them all each new year to make it feel brand new again. Anyone else do this?

I spent all weekend cleaning out the garage – again – as it is becomes this abyss of personal hell that everything gets shoved into and then eventually drowns in bin after bin. I swear to God everytime I reorganize this garage I purge a good car load plus of items, don’t seem to buy more, and yet more just shows up and accumulates. This year I am doing the great Christmas purge and am going to get these boxes condensed. It’s seriously out of control.
Some of. my most favorite holiday pieces and designs – most of these I have and use around my house each year~

How many ornaments do we need? Ribbons? Trim? Lights? Time to minimize this process and downsize. My problem is that I love all the ornaments, trim, etc. that I’ve been collecting for a lifetime. The high end and low end ornaments all talk to me in different ways. Maybe I’ll be in the mood for glitter and glam, modern rustic, woodland creatures, geometric retro, or outdoors….it’s just an endless tub of possibilities for this creative brain. I must admit, I am just a glitter person. I always have been and always will be because somehow this tinsel effect just draws me in.
Part of this purging effort is to get read for the new office I’m FINALLY building out in my shed. I’ve talked about this for years and finally got the Mr. to remove all of his tools (they’ve been cluttering the space for 6 years) and am taking over. We have such a tiny cottage house that all square footage here in the Bay is essential. Bay Area land ain’t cheap folks! So now that we’ve got all the garage squared away, the shed emptied, the patio put away for the winter it will be time to dive into a mini construction project with the shed to convert this sweet little cubicle space into a tiny house paradise that I want to work out in.
Back to the Christmas ornaments and glitter finds….how does a girl decide? It’s impossible to throw them away so I guess i’ll just have to pack these bins REALLY tight to make sure it all fits. That way I can keep it all!
