Never being one to shy away from the holidays, or holiday decor for that matter, I hunt year round for treasures. While I love all that the festive holidays bring, I do not love the holiday designs overall. What is happening people? Scary Santa mugs, elves that look like they live in your nightmares, and Rudolph’s dancing across plates like they are literally in my head…I am not a fan of this style of holiday. Which is abundant. And everywhere. This past year I put together some holiday room designs that re-purposed everyday ideas/designs that lived in client spaces already but gave them a fresh face for the holiday season.

My tips for holiday design for Dining Rooms and Living Rooms are: 1. Simple re-purpose can spruce a space up all over again. Rearrange your space, change out throw pillows or wall hangings, or pull out that old chair in the garage for a fresh lifespan. 2. Color schemes. Holiday, particularly, Christmas does not have to be limited to red and green. In this series, I just used a variety of different blues to create room spaces that feel holiday without feeling THE holiday…you know what I’m saying? A few simple wreaths, stockings, accessories to compliment the blue and white palette will give you a fresh feel for the holiday season.

So please, I beg you, avoid the scary Santa’s all over your living spaces and try to incorporate new colors or different pieces into your room designs to bring holiday into the present – Trust me, sometimes the most unique or un-traditional items can turn into the best ones!
