Living Rooms – Neutrals, White & Bright

I love neutrals as much as I love color. This Living Room project proved no different for me when a very clean, crisp and modern-contemporary palette was requested by a client. I loved the black details of the window which framed the back of a mountain with cascading views…what is not to love about this? I also love how the circular window adjacent from the floor to ceiling window wall offsets the symmetry of the room. Living Rooms are truly one of my rooms to design as the encompass everyday living for all in the space.

I’ve never met a white couch I didn’t like. Let alone, a white lounge chair. It just blends with everything so well and you can mix/match your accessories as much as you like. I also like that you can change out your throws, etc. seasonally as the time of year changes.

I also like me a good black sofa sometimes as well. Going the opposite direction can be fun and since its still just as neutral as a white sofa, you can have fun in an entirely different way. Plus, sometimes I feel that the bulk of interior design we see is feminine forward and we forget that men live in these spaces as well. So playing with a black sofa or touches of black accents definitely adds a more mascucline viewpoint to a space.

This space in San Francisco was fun because it involved a clear, Lucite coffee table (you can barely see it in that photo, right?) and cowhide rugs. A very minimalist, clean and neutral space for a man. Software accents even in a masculine space (a touch of feminine can still work and as they say, the ying with the yang is always good, so offset your space with something opposite) such as the orchid or a potted succulent can add a bit of variety.

Ah, neutrals. I do love you so much.
